We are totally snowed in!! Roads are closed into and out of Amarillo due to this spring blizzard. We’ve had this really mild winter with mostly Los Angeles type weather. 60s all the way up to 80s in the last couple of months. But winter really hit today. The news is calling it the “Blizzard of ’09″. Other than a quick Starbucks run early this morning. This is what Cassy and I have done all day:

Congratulations Calley and Wes
Calley and Wes were married in Riviera Maya, Mexico! Nick and I went down and got to hang out with them last week. We had so much fun getting to know you guys and all of your wonderful friends and family! This was the second wedding we photographed for the Conines. We had the opportunity to photograph Calley’s sister Chaney’s wedding several years ago. The Conines are a warm, fun family with huge hearts! Its so funny but everytime I work with them its like spending time with my own family. Our two families are so much alike!
With all of the recent news on the drug war in Mexico, we were really surprised that there really were not many visible signs of the trouble. We stayed mostly on the resort. The wedding was in a private club on the beach called the Kool Beach Club. There were some police or federalis with machine guns guarding the beach after dark, but we really didn’t see much of them. While that was kind of weird it was good to know they were out there keeping us safe. Overall the wedding was a great success and it was so great to spend time with the Conine family again. You guys are AMAZING! -
Cassy’s Super Fun Birthday Trip
Oh..btw..cool Spring and Summer Portrait Specials will be announced soon here on the blog. Plus, my images from my latest wedding in Mexico (yes, war torn Mexico). So be sure to check back..I promise there will be more than random ramblings.
Ok. On with the post…Cassy and I love Santa Fe, New Mexico. So for her birthday she wanted to go away for a few days and hang out in Santa Fe. Of course, I was all for it! It was really funny because we ran into several of my clients over the weekend. It was crazy to be in a restaurant or on the square and hear your name being called. I’m sure I had a confused look on my face as I was trying to figure out who would know us in Santa Fe. Amarillo people, of course!
We found this really cool hat shop called OFarrell Hat Co. and we both got our head measured by this turn of the century head measuring device. The crazy thing is how everyone’s head is totally different. From wearing hats my whole life I’ve always know that some hats fit great and look great while some don’t fit at all even though they look really good on the shelf.
We told our new friends Justin and Erica, who were headed to Santa Fe last weekend about the amazing breakfast place called The Pantry. The food is wonderful but probably not good for you. But who cares when you’re on vacation right? My favorite is a big breakfast burrito with potatoes and cheese and this amazing green sauce…mmmm!
For the first time we visited Bandelier National Park. I really love historical stuff and I’ve always learned by visiting places. I think I’m kind of a visual learner. Is that even a thing? You can find out more on Bandelier by Googling it. It was really kind of an exciting hike. At the end there is a final ruin that you have to climb like 140 feet of rock cliff to see. Its really easy, they have ladders installed. But also a little freaky if your not too keen on heights. I created a few photographs while we were in the park. I’ve been kind of into black and white lately and while I don’t photograph landscapes as much as I used to, it was really fun to hang out and connect with the outdoors via the camera.
I created 8 sets of 3 of my favorite prints from Bandelier. We almost always hang photography in our home in odd numbers. 1, 3s, 5s, make really visually appealing arrangements. The photographs are all three black and white. I then created digital mats that have the look and feel of a fine art matted print. One set is for me, so we will offer 7 of them on the estore. Fine art landscape photography can move you like a song. Its crazy how you can look into a photograph and it effects your emotions. Cassy and I love to collect photography and paintings from all over the world, so we’re pretty familiar with how much fine art can cost. Then, many times once you get the print home, you have to go have it matted and then framed. So, while we aren’t sending the photographs framed, we did take care of the matting.
The Bandelier Landscape Prints will be offered on my estore for around $149 per print. However, the 7 additional 3 up print sets will be offered at $199 FOR THE ENTIRE 3 PRINT SET! I don’t know if we’ve ever offered anything a such a great price. I definitely know as a collector I’ve never found a deal that includes 3 fine art landscape photographs at such a low price. Call me crazy!

Pro Photographers: Careful What You Post On Facebook
By agreeing to the terms of service agreement on Facebook you actually give them permission to use your photographs in advertisements for free and with no obligation to credit you. The agreement also states that you also have in your possession a model release for each person in each photograph that you post. So, if they use one of your photos for an ad, and the person in the photo they choose and use doesn’t want their photograph used, you could be responsible. That’s one reason that while you’ll see lots of photographs on my Facebook page, you won’t see much if any of my professional work.
The United States has become a wonderful breeding ground for opportunity for hundreds of years, hugely because of the protection of original ideas and inventions. In fact thats why so many artists and inventors can make a living in the US. Its illegal for people to steal your original work and use it without your consent. This is huge because the principle applies to not only photography, but business systems, inventions, music, advertisements, recipies…and much more. Can you imagine if our country were like Mexico, where brands like Levis, Gucci, Prada and other designers ideas are totally ripped off and their exact designs are manufactered and sold without their permission? If you’re a pro photographer you should check out the following website: http://www.photoattorney.com/2009/02/q-can-facebook-use-my-photos-of-people.html . Its really interesting if nothing else. So sorry about the crappy photography on my facebook page! -
Please Pray For Joy’s Family
This is an image of Joy and Chris at their wedding in the fall. Many of you over the years have worked with Joy who is my head enhancement artist. Joy’s dad passed away last week. Joy’s family is super special to us as Cassy and I of course know Joy well, but also have had the opportunity to photograph almost all of the Miller clan at one time or another. I can’t imagine how tough it is for them right now. I know they will appreciate all of our thoughts and prayers.
